VolumeLeaders

Volume with context. Insight with edge.

VolumeLeaders is a market-analytics platform that shows where the real money is moving: dark-pool blocks, sweeps, and unusual volume, with the context a trader needs to act. I led the product's UX and UI design and built its design system, turning dense, real-time market data into a clear, scannable interface.

The problem

Volume without context is just noise

Millions of trades print every day, and most trading tools bury the ones that matter. The signal that moves markets, large institutional blocks, dark-pool prints, and sweeps, is scattered across feeds and hard to read in time to act on.

VolumeLeaders exists to surface that signal: not more numbers, but the few trades and sectors that actually carry weight, shown clearly enough to act on at a glance.

01 — Organizing the market

From the whole market to what's moving

The overview answers one question first: where is attention right now? I designed a scannable dashboard of biggest movers and most actively traded names, with sector heatmaps that size and color each stock by performance, so a trader reads the whole market in seconds before drilling in.

Color does real work here, so it had to be legible and consistent: a positive and negative scale that holds up in both light and dark themes and never relies on red and green alone.

02 — The centerpiece

Reading the tape on the chart

The hardest view to get right was the chart. A single stock can carry thousands of trades, and a trader needs to see the ones that matter, a dark-pool block, a sweep, a late print, right on the price action, without the chart turning into clutter.

I designed trade markers that sit on the candles and open into plain-language detail: what printed, how big, at what price, and why it stands out. Each trade type has its own clear encoding, so the pattern is readable at a glance and precise on inspection.

03 — Systems thinking

A design system the product is built on

This is the part I am proudest of. I built a full design system for the platform: color, type, and a library of reusable components, from buttons and cards to the complex data tables and heatmaps, defined once and used everywhere.

The system includes the data-specific decisions most design systems skip: positive and negative scales, indicator and heatmap palettes, and light and dark variants, all documented as front-end-ready components so engineering could build consistently and fast.

Takeaway

Dense data, made decisive

VolumeLeaders is the kind of problem I want more of: a dense, high-stakes, data-heavy product where the whole job is turning an overwhelming amount of information into a fast, confident decision.

Designing the product and the system behind it meant every screen stayed consistent as the platform grew, and every visualization earned its place by answering a real question a trader asks.

Let's talk

I design complex, data-heavy products and build the systems behind them. I can go as deep as the problem needs.
